At Maker’s Mark, wood-finishing series were created to explore new, unique expressions of their signature whisky. Beginning as fully matured Maker’s Mark at cask strength, Private Selection is created by adding 10 custom wood finishing staves to each barrel. It’s then aged in a limestone cellar to extract a unique, flavorful taste profile. Participants in this special barrel program get their say in the selection of these wooden staves. The finishing staves can be any combination of five flavor profiles chosen especially for this program. This particual oak stave selection include staves of baked American pure, seared French oak, roasted French mocha and toasted French spice, with each wood variety imparting differing levels of spice, sweetness and vanilla notes to the finished product. This whiskey is said to have flavours of raisins, stone fruit, apricot and nutmeg.
